Materials relating to the plumbing work done by James Rankin & Sons for William Randolph Hearst and Julia Morgan for the Hearst estates at Wyntoon and San Simeon, including correspondence with Julia Morgan and William Randolph Hearst, contracts, and a large original drawing of the plumbing layout for the poultry farm at San Simeon. Contains additional family papers, as well as James Rankin's autograph memoir (16 p.) of his work on the Hearst estates.

Julia Morgan (1872-1957) graduated from University of California, Berkeley's Civil Engineering department in 1894, studying architecture unofficially under Bernard Maybeck. With Maybeck's encouragement, she went on to study at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1898, Morgan became the first woman to study at the Ecole, graduating in 1900.
